Storyboards

Hi again

Today in class,

We looked at storyboards. Storyboards allow a visual look before filming of a scene(s), this is like ‘draft filming’.

Here is a mini review of An American Werewolf In London tranformation sequence, as presented through storyboards.

2-568x722

As seen in these storyboards, it givs camera moving from one shot to the next, as as man raises is hand, a solid black box indicates moving in closer, with the arrow showing the movement/zoom. Underneath actions are written to allow the director to fully understand the sequence.

In these storyboards, the storyboard artist has given film terminology to allow the director to create the right shots. *POV and Close-ups

And after these have been presented to the director, it is then discussed and finally shot. This is how the filming actually went.

Steady boys

Howdy

Today in class,

We watched a segment from the film Atonement, in this scene a steadicam was used, this was chosen specifically by the director.

A brief context to the scene, just been witnessed by your lovely selves, this a part of the beaches of Normandy, Dunkirk. In the first world war, many soldiers were stranded on the beaches awaiting pick up from ships sailing from Britain. These ships were getting bombared by artillary, so as a result, the soldiers had to wait it out.

The director used this steadicam to give emotion to the scene, as you can see in the shots, many things capture the horrors of war such as; the shooting of the horses, fights and death etc. One moment in this scene it tracks the choir. This focuses on the faces and war scars (physical struggle) but also shows they’re keeping up morale and finding a little bit of hope.

I believe it is very effective and is a superb array of filming.

Scripped

Yo!

Today in class,

We have been looking at scripts from Scripped and found our own. Though I couldn’t find any from Scripped that I wanted to show. I found a snippet from the GODFATHER.

sample_script_page

This segment from the script gives dialogue of each character and gives location/setting such as; Int. Don’s office- day. It also gives instructions to the characters such as; Pause and (quietly). as well as these it gives a short briefing to the scene, this is known as exposition.

First Post- About me

Hey.

I’m Sam Dadd. A seventeen year old. I am on an AS programme but have been attending this college a previous year. I am taking; AS Film studies, AS media studies, AS Communication and culture and my only A2 in Psychology.

I have chosen Media studies (Film option) specifically to understand more about recording, editing and capturing my imagination into film. Though I haven’t had any previous experience with Media before, I am keen to understand all there is to know through this AS and hopefully A2 Media programme.

My interests include youtube and music. I like vloggers such as; Pointlessblog, Jim Chapman, Jacksgap and many more.. They are my real idols for doing Media studies. Hoping one day to either meet them or join them in vlogging my life to share with you and all the public who enjoy or who watch vloggers. I also would like to start creating short productions/films. This will give me the chance to edit, script-write and produce.e a little on the tame side, I enjoy each and every song from the genre of Easy listening/ Acoustic performances. My first band I loved was Maroon 5 and they still are in my top ten. I enjoy artists and bands such as; Roo Panes, Sara Bareilles, Colbie Callait, Jason Mraz, Ben Howard, Gavin Degraw, One republic and my favourite of all Andy Grammer. Who, one day, I would like to meet (It’s on the old Bucket list).

T.V. has always been big in my life, where from my first film I watched was a Disney classic, Peter Pan. I got told that I just was hooked on watching it and my love for films grew from there. I enjoy all different genres of film, and yes, even including the odd romantic comedy. As my favourite film is Friends With Benefits.
